Rotary Club of Kingston is part of a worldwide
organization of more than 29,000 Rotary clubs in 159 countries around
the world.
More than
1.2 million business and professional men and women make up the
membership of these clubs. We provide service, encourage high
ethical standards in all vocations, and build good will and peace
throughout the world. The Rotary motto, "Service Above Self"
encompasses what we are all about. We give our time and effort
to help others through service in our local communities. We
also assist in projects throughout the world by supporting Rotary
International, our parent organization.
For those
of you new to Rotary, The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster
the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular,
to encourage and foster:
- The development
of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;
- High ethical
standards in business and professions; the recognition of the
worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying by
each Rotarian of his or her occupation as an opportunity to
serve society;
- The application
of the ideal of service by every rotarian to his personal, business
and community life;
- The advancement
of international understanding, good will, and peace through
a world fellowship of business and professional men and women
united in the ideal of service.
All
Rotarians use the Four-Way Test in order to determine the feasibility
of a project; local or global. The Four-Way Test of the things
we think, say or do...
First...Is is the TRUTH?
Second...Is it FAIR to all concerned?
Third...Will it build GOOD WILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
Fourth...Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
The Rotary
International web site can tell you about Rotary on a world-wide
scale. Our District
site provides links to other club's web sites in our district as
well as District newsletters.
